Introducing The Oasis Dufferin Community Cookbook

This past year, Oasis Dufferin was pleased to welcomed five passionate medical students from the University of Toronto to the centre. Throughout their tenure at Oasis Dufferin, Amir, Liam, Maryam, and Abigail have been at the centre, learning, sharing and growing alongside our community as part of the Community Based Service Learning module as part of their curriculum. (Learn more about their experiences working with the Oasis Dufferin community in their blog, here.)

With feedback and participation from our community, senior participants, and some volunteers, this cookbook came to fruition. Featuring recipes, nutrition information, as well as cards to make your own recipes, it’s a fun and engaging way to promote healthy eating in the community, and share some interesting new cooking ideas.

Each intern created and cooked their own recipe using food that is usually accessible at a food bank, all based on their experiences of working at Oasis Dufferin. And not only that, but all of the pictures of the ingredients and dishes were taken by the interns as they each prepared their dish.

As a bonus, the booklet featured a blank recipe sheet to encourage community engagement so members can add their own recipes

A huge thank you to our medical student interns and to all of our community members who offered their feedback and ideas on this collaboration. We can’t wait to get in the kitchen and start cooking.
